Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
I've nothing against the fella on a personal level, but as a player, I've never been a fan his. Ok, he did a job for us the first couple of years, but now he's just a lumbering lump of lard who should never start matches. Bring him on for the last 15 - 20 minutes if needed.
For the last year or so it's been like playing with 10 men when he starts. When you see the pace the game is played at these days it's ridiculous that such a plodder should even be considered.

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
I agree with Fordstar (did i really say that!) Allardyce picks the team not Nolan. Also Nolan is associated with Allardyce so the Allardyce haters (me included) can use a sub par Nolan performance as another way to get at and slag off Allardyce.

Allardyce contridicts himselfs alot, for instance over Christmas Song needed a rest apparentl;y but 34 year old Nolan who makes me look fast did not. So us lot again slag off Nolan for daring to play consecutive matches when really it's Allardyce who we should be having a go at for picking him.

The other thing is if Nolan gets a 6 out of 10 for performance in a game we all rate him as 4 or 5 out of 10 because we are looking for his mistakes, lack of pace or whatever. Yesterday he did OK, he was not great but he also was not poor but people are still slagging him for his performance.

So I agree with most that Nolan should be a sub at best when we need a goal late on because he is good at sniffing them out. Allardyce picks the team and therefore picks Nolan. Its the fat one's fault.

Do one fordstar.

Norf

I'm not convcinced he is leading all the youngsters astray by plying them with drinks the night before the match. If it's having a few on the approriate night off, then it's not a big problem, though ideally all players would treat the bodies like very well paid temples, and not touch a drop of alcohol.

Weren't the trips you mentioned more to help get Andy's head off the depression of being out injured so long. He was pretty down, and maybe the trips helped get his head straight enough to fight his way back to fitness, which so far seems to have worked, fingers crossed.

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
Nolan don't pick himself, so if he is still starting games the maybe you should look at the manager. As far as I can see he still plays to the best of his ability (at his age) it may not be to the standard of Song/Kouyate but again it's not his fault.

Nolan is a good captain, yes he is an average player and yes we have started moving on from average......but fuck me we have had some shit over the years that never got half the shit Nolan gets.

As I said embarrassing cunts.

ornchurch ammer 2:04 Sun Jan 11
Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
Nolan being captain should not come into it. You have him as club captain and Song as team captain. A lot of clubs have split the role like that.

Yeah how dare footballers have a life outside football Norf.

Cunts

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
I believe we're in danger of nuancing this too much now. Nolan is passed it but he gets played, and he only gets played due to his loyalty to Allardyce. Both fit in with certain highly iffy and outdated stereotypes of English football and it's time we moved on. Enough is enough.

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
I think it's embarrassing we put an unfit player in the starting line up, especially in a deeper role. Still, what do I know? He'd probably beat me in a race so that's all that matters.

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
norf - he is a good occupier of space. the fact that he can do nothing with the ball is a slight problem.

Norflundon 1:52 Sun Jan 11
Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
I thought he did ok yesterday but his performance at Everton was possibly the worst individual display ive seen from a pro it literally looked like they'd stuck a pub player out there
IMO yesterday and west brom away are the only two games where he hasn't been truly awful and the fact he's starting over amalifitano is thoroughly ridiculous
Simple fact is he's a goal scoring midfielder that doesn't score anymore and on his dreadful performances he doesn't deserve his place in the team and the players must know this and nobody can tell me that's good for team morale having a player getting treated differently to the rest

Norflundon 1:45 Sun Jan 11
Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
He's an absolute pisshead and anybody who tells you different doesn't know him
Part of the VIP area at 195 being called the Kevin nolan suite kind of gives it away
And when carroll has been basically injured for two years my idea of being a good captain and leader and future coach is not to then take injured player to Ibiza and onto Croatia for a two week bender at the end of the season a true leader would of said have a nice week away relaxing and get yourself in the gym and come back fitter than ever to start earning your money.....but hey he moans at refs and digs our on players out so he must be a great captain

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
Do you go to games, Gloucester?... He's past-it... Pretty obvious to anyone that goes...

He's been worth the money we paid - even helping us return to the top-flight with his goals ensured that - but he's 33 this year (and a fucking old 33-year-old) and he's had it at this level now...

Simple as that...

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
Got top be honest I am far from being Nolan's biggest fan but watching the Swansea game yesterday you can't fault him trying. Yes he lumbers around but at least he tries to lumber around so he does make an effort. It's just that his effort isn't good enough at this level anymore and BFS just doesn't see it.

Nolan was best in a 4411 playing off the striker but we don't play 4411 and don't have a strong enough two in the midfield to play 4411 although I am not sure if Song and Kouyate couldn't do a job, so Nolan plays as a basic central midfielder which has never been his game.

It doesn't help that he is Captain. Really Song should be Captain and Nolan a squad player but that would be difficult to take for the individual going from Captain and First teamer to a mere squad player overnight and only BFS can do that to him and clearly won't so I feel for Nolan in a way.

He is clearly a good Captain and did a great job for a couple of years so maybe a coaching or backroom role would be a possibility in the future. Still think he has a part to play at the Club, just not as a first team starter.

The commentator didn't help things then, as he said there were a few boos from the West Ham support.

Big relief hearing it wasn't and was only swansea fans.

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
How often is all the time, though? Is he getting them absolutely shit faced on the eve of every match? 5 06 times a week? Or what?

I'm sure he goes for a beer with squad members, that would be nothing new or dangerous. I just wonder how often and how much he and they are drinking.

Re: Time to lay off Kevin Nolan?
I've never understood the abuse, really. He's done a fantastic job for this club, both on and off the pitch, and came to us when we were completely in the shit.

That his best days are now past him is debatable, and I thought he played well yesterday, but he doesn't deserve the cunting that he gets - god knows what it would be like if he'd actually done something wrong?

Keep on keeping on, Kev...
